Recent Report from Election Officials shows a Need for Real Election Reform

Press Release

Statement from the Chris Wright campaign concerning the discrepancies in voter registrations.

Recent Report from Election Officials shows a Need for Real Election Reform.

Sturtevant:  This week an AP article reported that more than 66,000 voter records appear to belong to people who may not exist. These records do not match other data bases. It also stated that 18,000 letters where returned undeliverable. These numbers bring the integrity of the ballot box into question again. In May of 2009 the Milwaukee Police Department released a report detailing discrepancies that they found. This report went largely ignored. In 2005 voter ID legislation was vetoed by Gov. Doyle. In April of 2008 Senate Republicans attempted to force debate of Assembly Joint Resolution 17, which would have required photo identification for voting and registering to vote. Six seconds after the motion, the Senate leader gaveled the session closed. Rep. Mason voted against AJR 17.

Chris Wright, candidate for the 62nd Assembly District, issued this statement, “The integrity of the ballot box is something that all elected officials should take seriously. Voting is a fundamental right and as voters we should know that the process is a fair and honest one. We owe it to the voters to make real reforms to the election process. This is why I authored Sturtevant Resolution 2008-24 in support of voter ID which passed unanimously. I would support legislation that would insure the integrity of the voting process. “

Press Release

Statement from the Chris Wright campaign concerning the June unemployment numbers.

Latest Unemployment Numbers Show Racine needs a Change in Madison.

Sturtevant:  Last week the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development released the June unemployment numbers. According to the report Racine and Racine County had an increase in unemployment. It showed that the city of Racine had an unemployment rate of 14.3% and the county’s rate was 9.7%. The Business Journal of Milwaukee also noted that Wisconsin dropped to 44th in job growth nationwide. Last year Wisconsin ranked 39th. Since June of 2009 Wisconsin has lost 18,100 nonfarm jobs. These numbers are disheartening enough, but when looking back over the last 2 ½ years a pattern emerges. In December of 2008 the unemployment numbers were 10.8% for Racine and 7.0% for the county. In December of 2007 the rates were 8.9% for Racine and 5.7% for the county.

Racine cannot take more of the same.  Chris Wright candidate for 62nd Assembly District issued this statement, “Since January of 2007 when Rep. Mason first took office the unemployment rate has steadily risen. He has campaigned on bringing jobs to Racine, but has voted for budgets that continue to make it harder for employers to create jobs. We cannot keep electing the same ideas and policies to office and expect different results. The 62nd district is made of up talented and hard working people who need a representative in Madison who will make bringing jobs to Racine a top priority. “

Wright Statement Concerning Patient Compensation Fund Transfer

Press Release Statement from the Chris Wright campaign concerning the recent State Supreme Court ruling.

Rep. Mason voted in Favor of the Illegal Transfer from the Patient Compensation Fund.

Sturtevant:  The recent ruling by the WI Supreme Court declaring the $200 million transfer from the Patient Compensation Fund is yet another example of irresponsible budgeting by the leadership in Madison. The state will now have to repay the fund with interest.  One of the votes cast for the 2007-09 budget was from the 62nd Assembly District’s elected representative Cory Mason. Chris Wright, who is running against Rep. Mason, said, “It is sad that a choice to raid a segregated fund to balance the budget instead of actually making responsible decisions is now going to cost the people of Wisconsin more.  Transfers from segregated funds like PCF and the Transportation Fund have contributed to the $2.4 billion shortfall that WI faces going into the 2011-13 budget. This will result in many tough decisions being made during the next legislative session. When you see cuts to local governments and programs, you can thank Rep. Mason and all that voted for this very bad idea.”
