Collins Campaign: Collins suspends campaign for lt. governor

Collins Campaign: Collins suspends campaign for lt. governor 6/30/2010

Campaign contact: Casey Himebauch 262.237.2158

LAKE GENEVA – Ben Collins, a former Green Beret officer and Lake Geneva business executive today released the following statement concerning his campaign for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor of Wisconsin:

“When I came back from Afghanistan and entered this campaign for lieutenant governor, it was clear to me how important new leadership in Madison was for the future of our state. As I have traveled across Wisconsin and visited with thousands of families and business owners, my initial view about the need for new leadership has been confirmed.

But as this hard-fought, six-person race for lieutenant governor has developed, I have begun to question whether my passion and ideas for Wisconsin’s future are best used in the lieutenant governor’s race or in the race for governor itself. Where can I most aggressively contribute to the pursuit for new leadership in Wisconsin? How can I best advance the goals of business owners trying to create new jobs? Who really is our best chance to turn Madison upside down and get our state back on track?

In answering each of these questions I arrive at the same conclusion: Scott Walker. As I’ve witnessed Scott campaign across our state, it has become quite difficult to contain my enthusiasm for his message and his vision. The practical, conservative approach Scott brings to government is what Madison has sorely lacked and what state government badly needs. I couldn’t have been more proud watching him earn our party’s near-unanimous endorsement, creating a center of gravity for the party in the process. He is a thoughtful, decent man with the temperament, experience and skills to be a truly transformative governor.

Therefore, I am suspending my campaign for lieutenant governor in order to focus my efforts to ensure Wisconsin’s future is secure in a conservative victory. It will also allow me to focus on my own business and my service with the Army National Guard, both of which remain high priorities.

To the thousands of people who have supported and encouraged me in this race for lieutenant governor, I am deeply grateful. To my opponents remaining in the race, I appreciate your deep concern for Wisconsin and wish each of you the very best on the campaign trail. To my wife and my family, I love and treasure your friendship and support.

To those who believe that the status quo in state government should continue, count me as the latest foot soldier in Scott Walker’s grassroots army to take Wisconsin back.”

IS REDPRAIRIE NEXT? On the heels of the announcements from Harley DavidsonFiskarsand whispers from Kohls, could the next hammer to drop be Waukesha based RedPrairie?

Last year, they abandoned plans for their new technology park and corporate headquarters.  Now, the CEO is leaving Wisconsin and the Georgia Department of Economic Development says "no comment." As early as 2006, these rumors have been swirling, with the former CEO stating the taxes here were too high.

Where is our Dept. of Commerce and why isn't Wisconsin working overtime to lure jobs from Georgia to our state?

As the next Lt. Governor, I will make creating a better business climate "Job #1"

A TOXIC BUSINESS CLIMATE AND HARLEY DAVIDSON :     Last week, Harley Davidson announced that it needs to cut $54 million dollars in local manufacturing. Regretfully, this is just another instance of a lack of leadership in Madison and politicians on their heels in the fight to keep businesses here and bring new jobs to Wisconsin. I will fight for Wisconsin and go on the offensive to create a better business climate in Wisconsin by lowering taxes, repealing combined reporting and cutting the unnecessary regulations.

Jim Doyle has said that combined reporting had nothing to do with Harley's announcement. This statement speaks to the broken political machine in Madison. This tax cost Harley Davidson $22.5 million dollars. To say it had "nothing" to do with it is absoluetly absurd. Combined Reporting is another symptom of our toxic business climate in Wisconsin.

As a Harley rider, I want to keep quality Wisconsin businesses like Harley Davidson here. This isn't only about helping saving a business, it is about Wisconsin pride. Please read my statement on this latest symptom of our lack of leadership in Wisconsin.

TEA Parties:      I had a blast attending the TEA Parties across the state and look forward to many more over the coming weeks and months.  One thing is clear, we are tired of politicians in Madison preaching about fiscal restraint and then governing like liberals. I will fight as your next Lt. Governor to restore our states rights under the 10th Amendment and with our next Republican Governor, will restore fiscal sanity to Wisconsin state government.

Veterans:      My campaign has connected with Veterans from nearly all of our 72 counties. I am looking forward to meeting many more of you. Be sure that you do not miss the LZ Lambeau, the welcome home for our Vietnam Veterans on May 21-23 at Lambeau Field. If you are a Veteran and want more info about this event or my campaign, please let us know by sending us an e-mail.      Like all who have served, I understand the sacrifices that have been and are being made for our rights and freedoms. Politicians in Madison just don't get it. Men and women have shed blood for this democracy, and politicians who have no idea are throwing it away.   Please join my fight to end politics as usual, visit VoteBenCollins.com today.

Wisconsin Tax Freedom Day

Wisconsin Taxpayers-

Today we celebrate Tax Freedom Day in Wisconsin. This is the day in which the Tax Foundation has calculated when the citizens of Wisconsin have earned enough to pay their state and federal tax bill. You have worked for 102 days just to pay your taxes to the government.

And what do politicians in Madison do with your money? They recklessly waste your hard earned dollars. While our Sheriffs and District Attorneys are struggling and we are letting felons out of prison, politicians in Madison are wasting your tax dollars on empty trains from Spain, windmills, soybean crushers and an opera house in Oshkosh. This pork barrel spending, along with a budget that raised taxes and fees, is hampering our ability to create economic growth and new jobs. We cannot continue down this path of politics as usual.

While we celebrate the marking of our symbolic freedom from this oppressive taxation, it's time we elect someone not beholden to Madison- but someone committed to you- to be your next Lt. Governor and jobs ambassador. I will lead there as I have done on the battlefield and in the board room.

What does Revolution in 2010 look like?

Fellow Patriots,

The Lord gifted to us the power of reason and language. It is what separates and delivers us from a base animal existence to civilized society. It was left to us to determine what we would do with such gifts.

It was reason and language that crafted the Magna Carta in 1215 that limited the powers of the King of England and protected the explicit rights of his subjects.

It was reason and language that energized fledgling states to rise up against tyrannical oppression and delivered our beloved Declaration of Independence in 1776 in response to an English King who valued control and revenues over the rule of law.

It was with reason and language that our Founding Fathers in the Constitutional Convention undertook the task, with a shared painful history of broken precedence, to ensure that power was never solidified in a central government that infringed on the individual rights of its citizens.

On September 17th, 1787, the United States Constitution was born, completing 572 years of the theme that man has not only the right, but the ability to govern ourselves.

On September 11, 2000, upon becoming a United States Army Officer, I took the following Oath:

"I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter, so help me God."

On June 2nd, 1987, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi took the same Oath.

On January 3rd, 1983, Senator Harry Reid took the same Oath

On January 20th, 2009, President Barack Obama took the same Oath.

On Sunday, March 21st, 2010, the combined efforts of those three individuals announced to the world that they have once again chosen control over the rule of law, that reason has been replaced with arrogance, language used to oppress rather than liberate, and that our most fundamental and profound Oaths are no  longer worth the papers they seek to protect.

They have redefined our most basic principles by the path, the means, to the end.

When a citizen breaks the rule of law, it is a criminal offense, when a state breaks its own rule of law, it is tyranny, and it is our duty to respond!

What then does revolution in 2010 look like?

The answer lies in the very same document that Speaker Pelosi, President Obama, and 2LT Collins swore to protect, in the 10th Amendment of the US Constitution:

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

Over the last century, our rights have been slowly eroded by the establishment of Federal agencies that regulate energy, the environment, drugs, food, etc., and done so on the backs of the individual taxpayers.  While taking umbrage to the financial burden, we have missed the larger concern, that it is we ourselves who have funded and allowed for this unconstitutional burgeoning of federal powers.

As Lieutenant Governor, I will fight as I have before, with every ounce of determination towards mission success, to reclaim our state's rights that have been so outrageously thrown and given away by past leaders.

I mean to fulfill my Oath.

Please join me in my fight and register at www.votebencollins.com

Wisconsin falling behind our neighbors

Dear Friends,

The Wisconsin Taxpayers’ Alliance issued a release Monday detailing the loss of private business in Wisconsin. The news is alarming.

Wisconsin lost more employers between 2006 and 2009 on a percentage basis than all of our neighboring states; Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois and even Michigan. In fact, all our neighboring states – with the exception of Michigan – posted increases in the number of private business during that time period. But Wisconsin lost 6,700 business…a decrease of 4.3 percent.

The Democrats and career politicians have tried to make business folks a target, but without employers there are no jobs. These are the same people who voted for the Doyle budget that raised spending, taxes and fees to the tone of $5 billion and then wonder where all the jobs have gone. To date, Wisconsin has now lost roughly 163,000 jobs.

So, we thought we’d dial up the folks at the Wisconsin Department of Commerce to find out what they’re doing to stem the 8.7 percent unemployment rate in Wisconsin.

Click the video and see for yourself the commitment by Madison to create jobs in the Badger State.

COLLINS RAISES NEARLY $150,000 FOR LT. GOV’S RACE

Decorated Green Beret and Small Businessman Will Report $142,000 COH

Media release date: February 1, 2010 Campaign contact: Casey Himebauch 262.237.2158

[Linn, WI…] Walworth County small businessman and Green Beret Ben Collins today will file his first campaign finance raising $147,234.50 and having more than $142,000 cash on hand for hisLieutenant Governor’s campaign.

Collins said he would focus his efforts on creating jobs and reinvigorating the state’s economy.

“Far too often career politicians say and do anything to get elected, and the result is a tax burden inWisconsin that punishes working families and main street businesses. You cannot raise taxes by $5 billion and expect the economy to grow. In fact, Wisconsin lost 163,000 jobs last year,” said Collins. “I’m honored by the support we’re receiving to restore fiscal sanity to Madison. It’s time to elect someone who has the courage and conservative principles to reject tax increases, make the necessary cuts to state spending and invest in new jobs that will make our state stronger.”

Collins, a decorated combat officer who completed three tours in Afghanistan, earned his Green Beret when he became a Special Forces Officer. He took command of a Special Forces Detachmentand served as the Assistant Operations Officer managing all the daily combat operations and contingency planning for over 150 Special Forces Soldiers. Collins valor and leadership in combat earned him the Army Commendation Medal with “V” device for Heroism.

Ben Collins For Lt. Governor

Dear Friends,

Many of you know my passion for this great country and my commitment to service. After 9 years of service in the military and now, as a business owner in the private sector, I have decided to continue that commitment to my country.

I have made the decision to run for Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin.

Reaching this decision was not easy, but my growing concern about the direction of our state and the lack of judgment, values and leadership being shown by our elected officials led me to take this step. I have taken stock in this democracy and realized I cannot sit back and watch those in government destroy what our Founding Fathers have built and what our soldiers have died for.

What our state government needs right now is leadership. If my time in the military has taught me anything, it has shown me what leadership is all about: Having a bold vision and the ability to achieve results.

That is why I am running for Lieutenant Governor.

I hope you will join my team!

As this campaign moves forward, please feel free to contact me with any advice, tips or messages you want to share.

Sincerely,

PS: I am running for Lt Gov to provide the leadership that is so desperately needed in this state. Please consider sending in your donation today.
