Milwaukee Professional Firefighters Proudly Endorse Scott Walker for Governor Cite Walker’s Exemplary Record on Supporting Public Safety
Wauwatosa – Today, Scott Walker, Milwaukee County executive and candidate for governor, emphasized his pledge to fully support public safety, and received the endorsement of the Milwaukee Professional Firefighters. Recently, Walker received the endorsement of the Milwaukee Police Association, and this week received the endorsement of former Governor and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Tom Ridge.
“Scott Walker has time after time put public safety first while still keeping his promise to keep taxes and spending low,” said Dave Seager, president of the Milwaukee Professional Firefighters. “As Milwaukee County executive, Scott Walker’s record of keeping first responders working to keep people safe should be commended, and we know he will continue to prioritize public safety as governor as well.”
“I thank Dave and the Milwaukee Professional Firefighters for their endorsement, but more importantly, for their courage and honor,” said Walker. “Our brave and dedicated first responders from across the state stand tall to keep us safe and it’s imperative that our elected officials stand tall with them. Unlike my opponent, I have pledged not to furlough public safety personnel if elected governor, and I will continue to fully support these brave men and women.”
Scott Walker’s Record of making public safety a priority throughout his career:
• Scott Walker was the coauthor of Truth in Sentencing legislation as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly and would fix the damage Governor Doyle has done to the law.
• In his most recent budget, Scott Walker fought to exempt public safety officials from furloughs. On the other hand, Tom Barrett cut a firefighter off of every rig and furloughed police officers. Barrett has fought to cut firefighters in each of his previous six budgets.
• Scott Walker was endorsed by former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge. At the event, Walker pledged not to furlough public safety officials.
• Scott Walker has been endorsed by the Milwaukee Police Association because, unlike Tom Barrett, Scott Walker has a career of making public safety a priority.
