Former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge Endorses Scott Walker for Governor
Wauwatosa – Scott Walker, Milwaukee County executive and candidate for governor, today received the endorsement of Tom Ridge, the former governor of Pennsylvania and the first U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security.
“Scott Walker’s ability to focus on keeping taxes and government spending in check while making public safety a priority is to be commended,” said Ridge, who joined Walker in Madison today. “I am confident that the state of Wisconsin under Scott Walker’s watch will become a more fiscally responsible, job friendly and safer place in which to live.
“I am fortunate to have the support of a man like Tom Ridge,” said Walker. “His record of service to Pennsylvanians and his role in helping to keep Americans safe after the attacks of September 11th, 2001 are remarkable. I hope to look to Governor Ridge often for advice, especially when it comes to protecting the people of Wisconsin.”
The Honorable Tom Ridge was the governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from 1995 to 2001 when he became the first Secretary of theU.S. Department of Homeland Security. He is now the president and CEO of Ridge Global, a global security and risk management consulting firm.
Scott Walker’s Record of making public safety a priority throughout his career:
- Scott Walker was the coauthor of Truth in Sentencing legislation as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly and would fix the damage Governor Doyle has done to the law.
- In his most recent budget, Scott Walker fought to exempt public safety officials from furloughs. On the other hand, Tom Barrett cut a firefighter off of every rig and furloughed police officers. Barrett has fought to cut firefighters in each of his previous six budgets.
- Scott Walker has been endorsed by the Milwaukee Police Association because, unlike Tom Barrett, Scott Walker has a career of making public safety a priority.
