Wanggaard Statement on Lehman’s Dismal Job Creation Rating
[RACINE] – Recently Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce, the state’spreeminent business lobby, released their rankings of all state legislators' performance on job-creation efforts during the 2009-10 legislative session. Incumbent Senator John Lehman (D-Racine) scored a 19%, tying him for the lowest ranking amongst all 33 state senators. Challenger candidate Van Wanggaard commented on the ranking:
“The fact that the state’s most prominent pro-business group tagged Senator Lehman as Wisconsin’s worst state senator when it comes to fighting for job creation and retention is disturbing, but not surprising. Racine, with its large manufacturing sector, is currently enduring a 14.3% unemployment rate, the second highest in the state.
“The ranking is symbolic of a greater problem with Senator Lehman’s approach to representing Racine County at the state level. Over his 14-year tenure, his out-of-touch liberal agenda has repeatedly gotten in the way of providing direction and leadership on issues that are vital to Racine’s economic health.
“While Senator Lehman decided to focus his legislative efforts on outlawing text messaging while driving and banning popular mail-in rebate offers, he apparently lost sight of the most pressing issues facing Racine County. Senator Lehman must be held accountable for his job-killing votes in November.”
