Wanggaard statement on IPFCF ruling
[RACINE] – Following today’s ruling by the Wisconsin Supreme Court that the $200 million raid of the Injured Patients and Families Compensation Fund was unconstitutional, state senate candidate Van Wanggaard released the following statement:
“Today’s ruling reaffirms my charge that my opponent, Senator John Lehman, has been reckless with the state’s budget. Senator Lehman voted to raid the ‘Injured Patients Fund’ in 2007, even while level-headed legislators warned that the raid was improper and possibly unconstitutional.
“This is yet another example of my opponent’s irresponsible stewardship of Racine County citizens’ tax dollars.
“Using accounting gimmicks to balance the budget is bad enough. But when the quality of our state’s health care suffers because of these gimmicks, it takes on a whole new level of seriousness.
“Senator Lehman should be up front with Racine voters and explain why he voted to raid the fund even though there was little hope of the maneuver holding up in court. He should also explain why he voted to increase spending in the state budget by $3.6 billion while leaving the state with a multi-billion dollar deficit.
“Senator Lehman’s track record of fiscal mismanagement is well established, and today, the highest court in the state shined a spotlight on it.”
