Code Red...As In "We're In The Red"
With $3.8 Trillion planned for spending in FY2011—an increase of nearly 10% from just 2 years ago and 25% of our GDP—it’s not hard to see how money that’s being taken out of theprivate sector and being reallocated to the public sector has a catastrophic impact on our economy’s recovery efforts…and on millions of Americans trying to find work.  What’s worse is that this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Washington’s spending plans.  If things proceed unchanged, our deficit will rise from $1.3 Trillion this year to $8.5 Trillion over 10 years.  This will double our national debt and set us into a tailspin that we simply will not recover from.  This out-of-control spending must be addressed now.
Making a Name...
There are two things that I’m going to be famous for in the U.S. Senate: 1. Eliminating government programs, and 2. cutting taxes.  No one—regardless of party or position—will stand in my way of getting this done.  This is required for us to emerge from our current economic woes…and it’s the essence of how government is supposed to function.
So, how will I do this?  Simple—I have two very basic approaches:
  1. If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.  Every one of the 25 government program budget lines taxpayers fund needs to be evaluated—and if they’re not providing an essential service—they need to be eliminated.
  2. Even low taxes are bad for an economy…higher taxes are exponentially worse. Our current tax climate—as well as the threat of future tax increases—is the primary driver behind our slow economy.  Tax reform, coupled with spending restraints, will help labor relocate to the U.S. and make us more viable in the global economy.
While taking these two areas on may seem daunting, they’re not to me…because it’s the right thing to do.  America was made exceptional on the foundation of taking the “harder right” over the “easier wrong” and this time is no different.  We will emerge from this economic downturn and the United States will continue to be the greatest nation on earth.
I hope you enjoy the video and I look forward to seeing you on the road…
